The Westerner’s “Dinner on Ice”

Friends, if you haven’t taken in an event at Westerner Park lately, you’re missing out! I recently attended their “Dinner on Ice” and it was AMAZING!

This was my second year taking in The Westerner’s Long Table Dinner, and they’ve gone above and beyond!

This was an unforgettable five course dinner, served on the Enmax Centrium Ice, while being entertained by silk aerialists from local Red Deer gym The Forum, as well as local synchronized skaters from Solstice Synchronized Skating.

The dinner is in conjunction with Alberta Open Farm Days. A weekend where participating farms across the province open their doors to public tours, and local restaurants create special menus using all locally sourced produce.

The soup was incredible ( I’m not ashamed to admit it’s been on my mind since). The roast? Oh SO tender. And don’t even get me started on the cheesecake!

Wine pairings are very common during dinner, however, in keeping with out of the box thinking ( I mean we are having dinner in the middle of August, in Alberta, ON THE ICE!), we’ve once again we’ve been introduced to a relatively new idea: craft beer pairings! Each course was accompanied by a craft beer, made by local fave brewer Troubled Monk, that complimented each dish! Think lager to begin, light and crisp in the middle, a full bodied sip with the entree, and a berry cream liqueur to finish with dessert. The thoughtful pairings enhanced each bite, and I must say I experienced some of my craft favorites in a new way!

This was an absolutely unforgettable evening. I mean… how often do you get to have dinner in the middle of the ice where your favorite local hockey team (Go Rebels!) play?

I can’t wait to see what they come up with next year! Will I see you there?
