Open, spacious and inviting, Meeting Waters Coffee and Roastery provides a brand new and welcoming space to Red Deer’s coffee spot scene.

On our first visit we met friendly owner Dave Frotten. He explained Meeting Waters is an extension of his family’s coffee shop bearing the same name in Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia. In the city of Tatamagouche, an aptly named Mi’kmaq word meaning “Meeting of the Waters”, there are two rivers that join as one.

We’ve enjoyed their breakfast Quiche, purchased their take home granola, returned for their tasty lunch specials, not to mention often stopping in for a delicious and velvety cup of joe. Partnering with another local favorite “The Maple Tree Bakery”, you can now enjoy any breakfast bun or lunch sandwich on gluten-free bread.

With two floors of seating you are sure to find a spot to gather. Large tables would be great for a business lunch meeting.  A bar height counter upstairs, complete with several plug-ins, is an accommodating space for a student focusing on their studies. Bring a book along, sink into a cozy chair by the fireplace to enjoy your coffee and eats.

Plans for future “roasting” presentations are exciting and their regular “Open Mic” nights are a fresh addition to Red Deer’s night scene.

It’s safe to say we’ll be regulars here.

The new kid on the Red Deer restaurant scene is Bedford Food Company and after our first visit we think they’re here to stay.

Red Deer needed this. Needed a fresh spot with a cool, inventive edge. A locally owned “fast food” option including bowls loaded with veggies with in house made sauces, to creative poutines, donairs and even dessert. A spot the whole family can enjoy!

Walking through the door we were greeted promptly by the friendly and outgoing owner, Feek. His passion for getting great food to people is evident.

We decided bowls were for lunch. Bowl # 1 was the Vegan Bowl with house made tzatziki and light and crispy falafel. Delicious and very filling, we would order this again. Bowl #2 was the Zesty Peanut Bowl. This bowl has ALL the flavors. Loaded with veggies, the house made flavorful sauce gives this bowl a bit of a spicy kick.

Now dessert. Are you ready for this? FRENCH TOAST POUTINE. Yes you read that right. Slices of french toast, topped with cream cheese bites and drizzled with maple syrup. Are there any words to convey how good this is? Nope. You just gotta go get one, take a bite, close your eyes and say “Mmmmmmmm”.

As parents we’ve spent many a day at a fast food joint, grudgingly ordering the #4 combo because we got out voted for where to eat. A perfect family friendly option, Bedford Food Company’s menu is pleasing for every family member. Kids want poutines and donairs, and maybe Dad and Mom want a healthier bowl or wrap? Bedford Food Company is whats for dinner.
